donuts?
yes, donuts.
Each year when the week of Mother's Day rolls around, that phrase comes out of my mouth automatically. Reminiscent of the commercial; the alarm goes off much too early, my feet swing out of bed, I try to wake up...and the words utter from my lips, followed by a sigh..and a smirk: "time to make the donuts".
It's a long, long week at the flower shop... with many hours spent creating beautiful bouquets for Mothers, Grandmothers, and other "special women".
When it comes to Mother's Day, there just is no gift quite like a bouquet of fresh, beautiful, fragrant flowers.
Don't forget to order your bouquet early!
And it's okay to send it a little early too...couldn't you use some extra bragging rights?

more PROM!
Crazy week!
Painting and cleaning over the weekend.
Funerals, funerals, and more funerals.
Delivery guy quit.
Friend to the rescue!
More PROMS!
Sticky fingers...
Times change and you have to get with the program or stay behind.
Took a class...did experiments...liked the results.
Glue is the way to go, and so now I have sticky fingers.
Magnets replace pins, and lots of sparkly ribbon, wire, gems, and even feathers are hot additions.
Uff da...
But here are a few of the beauties!
So another Prom season comes to an end, just in time to gear up for Mother's Day.
YAY!

little treasures
Like this darling silver tea / coffee server brought in by a client for me to fill with something permanent as a gift to her mother. Nothing fancy, just a sweet little something for her table.
I love the way it turned out.
Sweet and rather English looking - and it does not overwhelm the beauty of the silver.
Next time you're cleaning out the attic, or the garage, and you find a little treasure...you might consider letting it be repurposed to hold something special for your table!
I do so love treasures......

ranunculus
I love the way it rolls off the tongue.......r a n u n c u l u s .....
It's my new favorite flower.

Lasts a long time.
Delicate. Lots of petals. Large bloom size.
Pairs nicely with l o n g lasting hydrangea and boronia heather.

Too bad boronia heather is only available for such a short time....
I love it's sweet, heady fragrance.
I'm bringing some home. ♥♥♥

No power, no problem
I hate when the power goes out in the middle of the day.
In the middle of a creation.
The dog gets upset.
I can see what's around me.
I can't see in the cooler....
I couldn't find the flashlight.
Grabbed some stuff hoping it was the right color.
The lights came back on.
Take that, VPU

Laura and Chad's Ludlow's Island Wedding
As florists, we are essentially artists, and our chosen medium is a perishable and fragile product. Individually we have our own style, and collectively we produce a beauty that is sometimes beyond words. And while not everyone appreciates our "art", or likes our individual style....every once in a while someone walks into your business, and there is an immediate chemistry - an appreciation between artist and patron. So it was with Laura and Chad - an absolutely delightful couple from Rogers, MN - who entrusted me to create the perfect wildflower compliment to their northern Minnesota outdoor wedding.
They happened to stop in my shop during the dead of winter for a little "look - see", and they immediately liked what they saw, so we chatted about their upcoming nuptials and the vision they had for their rustic wedding. The connection between our thoughts was almost instant. All of the necessary details were hammered out in a series of emails, and the result was a perfect marriage of their ideas, personality, and unique venue, and my talent for combining that with the right botanical materials, a little magic, an artistic flair, and making it all "work".
The bride wore a lovely white silk and crepe summer dress with deep blue and yellow handpainted flowers and carried a small handtied bouquet of wildflowers.
The young daughters sported wrist corsages fashioned of bark wire with blossoms that matched their cotton dresses.
The men's boutonnieres were fashioned of a mix of unique botanicals featuring cones, pods, thistle, grasses, and seeds.
Coordinating corsages were fashioned for the ladies
A closer look....
The tables were decorated with mason jars that were filled with similar wildflowers and tied with raffia.
They were delighted - as was I. Best wishes to a most enjoyable couple, and thank you for allowing me to be an integral part of your special day!
